"Shalaya Briston, 24, of Munhall, PA was arrested and has been charged with criminal attempt homicide and aggravated assault", the police said in a statement.

According to WTAE, a woman is in custody in connection with Pryor's stabbing.

Police said they responded to UPMC Mercy Hospital after a male stabbing victim arrived in critical condition just after 4:30 a.m.

Pittsburgh police announced the arrests and charges on Saturday afternoon.

National Football League wide receiver, and ex-Ohio State QB, Terrelle Pryor was hospitalized after he was stabbed overnight in Pittsburgh. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, a source confirmed successful surgery this morning. Briston also received injuries in the incident.

ESPN's Josina Anderson reported Pryor was stabbed in the chest and shoulder area. He spent three seasons with the Buckeyes, throwing for 57 touchdowns and 6,177 yards. He hasn't played this season after being released by the Jaguars in September.

A third-round pick by Oakland in 2011, Pryor never stuck as a quarterback and switched to wide receiver.

Pryor is now a free agent.
