The concept for E.T. II: Nocturnal Fears would have supposedly shown "Elliott and his friends getting kidnapped by evil aliens and follow their attempts to contact E.T. for help".
And the film's fans were delighted to have seen some of their favorite scenes reenacted with E.T. and Elliot's kids.
Not only has E.T. returned in what looks like a mostly CGI form, but Henry Thomas, the actor who played the little boy who befriended E.T., has returned as well to play the grown-up Elliott.
"The audience is going to get everything they want out of a sequel without the messy bits that could destroy the beauty of the original and the special place it has in people's minds and hearts", Thomas said in a statement. Watch the E.T. Christmas commercial below. Xfinity TV customers with X1 will be able to say "E.T. Phone Home" into their Voice Remote for an E.T. -themed destination.
But then the son's shirt starts to glow, and he finds the same orb E.T. used to see his family - and this time, Elliott and his kids can see E.T.!
It's been 37 years since the release of "E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial".
The ad sees everyone's favourite extraterrestrial arrive back on Earth once more, only this time he meets Elliott's children and, well, it's just magical and you need to see it for yourself.
Comcast (parent company of Universal Pictures) has debuted a new 4-minute Xfinity ad titled A Holiday Reunion, which brings together E.T. and Elliott (Henry Thomas) for the first time in 37-years.
Although technology has changed our world since they last saw each other, their friendship remains strong and is a touching reminder of how important reconnecting is at Christmas.
