Sky Sports has confirmed that both will miss the game against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Klopp says Brazilian trio Fabinho, Roberto Firmino and Alisson will also need to be checked over after arriving back late from global duty in south america while Gini Wijnaldum will also be assessed after playing 90 minutes for Holland on Tuesday night.

No other changes should be made in the team that started vs Manchester City in the last league contest before the worldwide break. [Friday] was the first time at 100 per cent, so we had then to make the decision of whether we started him or not. We have to be sensible with things like this. It's not that it got worse, it is still there, and that's the problem.

Joe Gomez picked up a knock while training for England but he shouldn't be missed much since Van Dijk is now being partnered by Dejan Lovren in central midfield.

"But I didn't make the decision".

The 27-year-old has trained with the Liverpool squad this week but Klopp is unsure if the forward will recover in time for Saturday's trip to Selhurst Park. It's going to take something incredibly special, or lucky, to beat Liverpool in the Premier League this season, and we don't think the Eagles will get the job done.

"From the others, I can not say 100 per cent, I don't know 100 per cent. I will have to see the session later".

If Robertson's ruled out then it will be the ever-versatile James Milner who will play at left-back while Trent Alexander-Arnold operates down the right. Fabinho, Roberto Firmino and Alisson played on Tuesday, so did [Georginio] Wijnaldum.

Wilfried Zaha had levelled in the 82nd minute for the hosts with his first goal of the season after Sadio Mane's opener, but Jurgen Klopp's men showed more resolve to extend their unbeaten run in the division to 30 games.

Apart from these players, Joel Matip is also out with a long-term injury and the player will only be back in action sometime next month.
