Minnesota Twins prospect Ryan Costello has been found dead in his Auckland hotel room days after joining the Auckland Tuatara in the Australian Baseball League.

Costello's family in the States have been informed and the Tuatara club in a statement offered their deepest condolences.

'On behalf of the entire organization, the Twins send their most honest condolences to Ryan´s family, friends, coaches and teammates, ' the Twins said in a statement. The team added that Costello's teammates were "naturally devastated". The 23-year-old third baseman died in his sleep, apparently of natural causes, on Monday morning, team officials said.

We are saddened to learn of the untimely passing of Ryan Costello.

The Wethersfield, Conn., native was a 31st round pick by the Seattle Mariners in the 2017 MLB Draft.

He played college ball in CT, where he grew up, according to the newspaper.

He hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the 2018 Florida State League Championship Series to help lead the Miracle to their second title in five years.

Throughout 2019, he split his time between the class A Fort Myers Miracle and the class AA Pensacola Blue Wahoos, playing first, third and outfield.

"On behalf of the entire organisation, the Twins send their most honest condolences to Ryan's family, friends, coaches and teammates". He and Chase De Jong were traded to the Twins for pitcher Zach Duke in July 2018. "He is the definition of a great teammate and has been taken from us far too soon. We loved him so much", CT Post quoted Mike Harrison, of Connecticut, as saying on the Tuatara's Facebook page on behalf of the Costello family.

The Tuatara face the Perth Heat Wednesday at North Harbour Stadium in Aukland.
