Donald Trump's visit to Madison Square Garden comes just days after the life-long New Yorker announced he would be moving his primary residence to Florida.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - NOVEMBER 02: A general view of the Octagon prior to the UFC 244 event at Madison Square Garden on November 02, 2019 in New York City.

According to the New York Post, although a small group of protestors gathered outside and some fans booed Trump as he walked into the arena, "there were twice as many fans happy to see the commander in chief".

On Saturday, as Mr. Trump's motorcade approached the Garden, one onlooker held a sign that read "headlock him up".

Derrick Lewis, an American heavyweight, won his fight in a split decision over Blagoy Ivanov, a Bulgarian fighter, as chants of "U.S.A.!" echoed.

Trump wrote on Twitter: "1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, the White House, is the place I have come to love and will stay for, hopefully, another 5 years as we MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN".

In a Sunday morning tweet, the President didn't address any negative reception he received the night before, instead writing that walking into the venue "was a little bit like walking into a Trump Rally". Host Pete Hegseth said the crowd was showing its appreciation for "the brawler style of a brawler president".

The President was seen clapping and at one point stood up for a better view as 20,000 pumped-up fans screamed and swore amid an electric atmosphere at the pay-per-view spectacle. Trump, who has raged against the Democratic political leaders in NY - he and his business are the subject of several investigations - will also benefit from Florida's lower tax rate.

During a press conference following the UFC event, Dana White expressed his appreciation of Trump's attendance.

Speaking with reporters on Friday, Kellyanne Conway, a top Trump aide, said he was not seeking to avoid taxes and that he moved from NY "with some regret". "You gotta turn that ... around in 2020", Lewis said after the match. If you want to boo, you boo. Trump reached out and offered the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, White said.

President Trump's departure from NY on Sunday was expected to further snarl traffic during the city's annual marathon.

White said the moment he walked Trump out into the main bowl of the arena was special for him, personally.
