And, there have been other fights around the country where people seemed to be competing rather than just standing in line for a chicken sandwich.

The sandwich was created to help Popeyes compete with Chick-fil-A, the market leader in fast-food chicken.

Police are investigating the fatal stabbing of a man who authorities say was killed outside a Popeyes after a fight that may have stemmed from the restaurant's popular chicken sandwich. It appears one may have cut in line in front of the other, Donelan said. That this individual was in line, a line specifically for the sale of the sandwich when another customer and he got into an altercation. Paramedics took the 28-year-old to a hospital but he did not survive his injuries.

Police in Houston, Texas, said a man threatened Popeyes employees with a gun after being told the restaurant was out of chicken sandwiches in September, according to ABC13. The assailant fled and police urged him to turn himself in to authorities.

"For you to get that angry over anything ... and to develop into this type of violence, again, is a very sad and tragic day."

"We are asking the person that did this to come forward", Donelan said at the press conference.

Popeyes began reselling the sandwich on Sunday after a two-month hiatus.

CNN has reached out to Popeyes for a statement.

Popeyes franchisees hired more staff to cope with the return of its hit spicy chicken sandwich. The victim and the suspect's identities were not immediately released.

"What we have since been able to that this is related to the release of the sandwich here at this restaurant".
