While Tom Brady is considered arguably the best QB of all time and still playing at an elite level, the Patriots defense, particularly against the pass, has been leading the charge for head coach Bill Belichick in 2019. Predictably, Belichick didn't exactly fire back. At one point in the preseason, the Patriots cut Thomas, re-signed him and then traded him to the Jets in September. "It is what it is". Bennett recorded 9.0 sacks in 2018 - his only season with the Philadelphia Eagles - before signing with the Patriots this offseason. "[.] Once I got cut (on August 31), I could have just come here (to the Jets) and not stayed there and re-sign", Thomas explained. Brown becoming available changed everything.
Thomas spoke to the New York Daily News ahead of his team's Monday night game against New England, and spoke about being disrespected and insulted during his short time there. "So, again, they have a very good scheme, good play caller, good strategy and they have a lot of good weapons".
New York Jets wide receiver Demaryius Thomas said Wednesday he felt that the New England Patriots were not being upfront with him when they traded him last month. It's really up to us how many points we score, I think. "We can't get the ball around enough and we're going to trade you to the Jets, '" Thomas added. "And that was that". Ain't no reason to yell. I was only trying to be a part of something that was going to be good when I was there... "That was obvious in the Dallas game that their execution and some of the things they were doing they were just more efficient at and looked better doing them". The decline has been sudden for Thomas over the past year, but the former Broncos star could still add depth for a banged-up team now that the Jets have fallen down the AFC East standings. "I apologize to my teammates for any distraction this may have caused", Bennett said in a statement.
Bennett, a three time Pro Bowler during his final three seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, has one start while appearing in each of the Patriots' first six games of the regular season. You guys probably feel that, too, a little bit. Such is the life of a veteran coming off a major injury.
Thomas signed a one-year deal with the Patriots in April. The biggest play he made came in Week 3 against the Patriots when he recovered a muffed punt for a touchdown to get the Jets on the board.
