Advance polls open this weekend for federal election

Advance polling stations will be open from Friday Oct. 11 through to holiday Monday Oct. 14 from 9 9 p.m.

You can register at your assigned polling station when you go to vote on advance polling days or on general election day (Oct. 21).

If they haven't received a card, they can find their designated location by calling Elections Canada at 1-800-463-6868.

Rejean Grenier, regional media adviser for Elections Canada, said more than 20 per cent of the total voters in the last election in this riding cast their ballots in advance polls.

Polls are open 7:30 am until 7:30 pm on that day.

Can I vote at an Elections Canada office?

The public can also vote at any Elections Canada office until 6 p.m. on October 15, the same deadline for registering to cast ballots by mail.

Marantz said the advanced voting trend was reflected nationally with turnout doubling in the 2015 election.

There's a lot of information to know and with debates, scandals, and Twitter flame wars occupying your airwaves, you might've forgotten to actually register to vote.

You'll also need either government-issued photo identification or two other forms of ID with name and address, such as a credit card with billing statement or health-care card and utility bill.

Voters must bring identification that verifies their name and address. Just make sure to double-check with Elections Canada!

Dugald Maudsley, a spokesperson for Elections Canada, said that the increase in votes can be chalked up to more polling places and outreach by Elections Canada - such as the "It's Our Vote" campaign - as well as grassroots student initiatives.

During the last election, about 18 per cent of voters in both North and West Vancouver voted in advance polls.
