"We care about this", Dave Limp, leader of the company's devices business, said Wednesday at Amazon's headquarters in Seattle. Instead of using cameras or digital displays, these $180 glasses just position a microphone in such a way that you can talk to Alexa more discreetly than using a phone or shouting across a room. Demand for Amazon's devices, led by the hockey puck-sized Echo Dot smart speaker and Fire TV streaming stick, made it the third-top-selling brand by unit sales in the us last year, according to estimates from researcher Euromonitor International. At the retail giant's hardware event today, this news was largely confirmed: the Echo Buds are a real thing, they start shipping next month, and they'll run you about $130. This device is now available for pre-order at $129. The company trailed only Apple Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co. You can ask Alexa questions like, "Alexa, how many chicken thighs do I need?" and it will overlay details on the display. According to Amazon, it is using a "neural text-to-speech" engine to mimic celebrities' voices, although, the celebs have signed-up for the program and will be paid as per legal contracts. And for those who are exhausted of Alexa's voice, Amazon plans to introduce its first celebrity voice (Samuel L. Jackson) later this year for $0.99. Apple's HomePod has a similar feature. Alexa Announcements will tell you when it's ready, too, rather than expecting you to listen out for the beep, and a temperature probe keeps track of the actual cook level of the food too. Per Amazon, the glasses are meant to access Alexa while out and about.
Google's devices now lack this new feature although the USA firm is expected to release a refreshed range of clever music makers at its Pixel launch event next month.
The Echo Buds will let you do pretty much everything you could with any other Echo device; smart speaker or otherwise.
Having seen this Echo in the flesh, Express.co.uk has been left largely impressed and it could convince more consumers to buy what is already the firm's most popular smart speaker. The Echo Flex is $25 and will ship on 14 November. In an audio test here at Amazon's headquarters, the speaker was clearly better than the older Echo.
No word yet on whether or not the Sam Jackson voice option for Alexa will recite lines from Jackson's famous film roles, but fingers crossed.
But perhaps the most freaky new Alexa products are yet to come.
By choosing to skip any sort of display or camera, sticking only to audio, Amazon manages to make smart glasses that arent huge, heavy, bulky, or cumbersome.
These are basically Echo Frames that you wear-in your ear. We're not sure why smart plugs are a little more complicated to grasp than standalone smart speakers.
The final of the accessible audio system is the Echo Studio, probably the most highly effective and with the most effective sound high quality, along with being the most important.
