Felipe Vazquez arrested, charged with solicitation of a child, providing obscene material to minors

Felipe Vazquez, an All-Star relief pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates, is facing charges of soliciting a child after authorities say he engaged in a sexual relationship with a teen girl.

He is charged with solicitation of a child and providing obscene material to minors.

Law enforcement officials in Florida allege Vázquez has for two years maintained a sexual relationship with a now-15-year-old girl who resides in Lee County, Fla.

Vazquez is also accused of performing a sex act in a video that he sent to the girl in July, according to police.

Authorities arrested Vazquez and took him to Allegheny County Jail after executing a search warrant at his Pittsburgh apartment.

Following the arrest, police seized electronic devices that will be examined as part of the investigation. Additional charges may still come. Vazquez is expected to be extradited to Florida.

Vazquez was denied bond at his arraignment hearing on the Florida charges Tuesday afternoon, according to Jason Mackey and Shelly Bradbury of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

"Today we were made aware of an active law enforcement investigation involving Felipe Vázquez and his subsequent arrest", Pirates President Frank Coonelly said in a statement.

ESPN's Jeff Passan reports that Major League Baseball has placed Vazquez on administrative leave. We have informed the Commissioner's Office of the investigation and arrest. We need to be respectful to all involved and the ongoing legal proceeding.

Vazquez, 28, is a two-time MLB All-Star. As long as Vazquez is on administrative leave, he will not be paid. Crick, meanwhile, injured his right index finger, requiring season-ending surgery. Crick maintained Vazquez threw the first punch, with general manager Neal Huntington condemning both players for their actions.

Teams found the Pirates' demands exorbitant, and Vazquez remained with Pittsburgh.
