Fitbit Versa 2, Aria Air

Fitbit launches Fitbit Aria Air: a bathroom scale just like Aria 2 but much cheaper

Fitbit launches Premium subscription service for health coaching

With the press of a button you can use Amazon Alexa to not only ask the usual Alexa questions such as finding the nearest gym but also control the watch functions themselves such as alarms, timers, checking local weather and news, controlling smart home devices and more.

Fitbit is adding a faster processor and adopting an AMOLED display, which will help improve battery life because OLED displays are more power-efficient than traditional LCDs. While the wearable does come with a microphone, it lacks a speaker so one will have to view the Alexa results on the display.

While it generally looked nearly the same as per its predecessor due to its square-ish design, the new Versa 2 comes with an AMOLED display alongside a faster processor. Fitbit's new service, Premium, will begin its pilot program in October in the USA before its global release in 2020. You get a Sleep Score based on your heart rate, restlessness, time awake, and Sleep Stages. There are a plethora of case options for the Versa 2, including classic, sport, woven, leather, and collector bands in a variety of colors ranging in price from $29.95 to $99.95.

Fitbit Premium is a new, paid health and fitness subscription service for those who want a deeper and more personalized experience on their Fitbit app and connected devices. Accordingly, battery life has been extended from four days to five, and Fitbit is introducing various features related to sleep tracking. It runs Fitbit OS, so all the apps and watch faces that you've seen on older Fitbit smartwatches are compatible with this device. Premium will be available to any Fitbit user and to Fitbit Health Solutions customers through Fitbit Care. $330 will get you a Versa 2 in either carbon (black), copper rose (rose gold), or mist grey (grey). If users use an Android phone to connect to the device, they can even use the reply-to-texts feature.

Other features include automatic activity tracking, PurePulse 24/7 heart rate tracking, connected Global Positioning System, support for the Spotify app, water-resistance up to 50 meters, and more than 15 goal-based exercise modes.

"At Fitbit, we're focused on making health accessible and more achievable", Parks added. Premium users will be able to access hundreds of Fitbit Coach video and audio workouts, as well as custom built workouts for them.

Fitbit Premium launches this September in select markets, with monthly subscriptions available for $10 and yearly commitments for $80.

Fitbit will also be bringing their Sleep Score to the Versa 2 to allow you to get "better insight into your sleep quality".

Fitbit is no longer just for those trying to get fit: the collection of new features puts the Fitbit Versa 2 in more direct competition with Apple's and Samsung's flagship smartwatches.

Not done there Fitbit have also announced a new member of the Aria product family, the Aria Air.

Presales start today at Fitbit.com, and the Versa 2 will be available in-stores starting September 15 at retailers including Best Buy, Kohl's, Macy's, Target, Verizon, and Walmart, in addition to availability via Amazon. The Fitbit Aria Air is the cheapest smart scale Fitbit has released at just $50 (UK price TBA, but likely £50).
