Insomniac Games acquired by Sony, calls out "a special relationship"

Ratchet and Clank Are In Sony's Future

Sony acquires Marvel’s Spider-Man studio Insomniac Games

Insomniac joins PlayStation's already impressive stable of studios that includes Naughty Dog, Media Molecule, Sucker Punch Productions and Polyphony Digital.

Given how much we enjoyed Insomniac's Spider-Man game (and, yes, given that BMD is mostly a PS4 household), we certainly aren't opposed to the idea of another Insomniac Spider-Man game; hell, we might even play a few more of 'em.

Microsoft's recent slew of studio acquisitions is not going unanswered at its primary competitor Sony as the Japanese company is set to purchase Spider-Man developer Insomniac Games. On the Marvel's Spider-Man front, well we can safely assume that any potential sequel will also be a PlayStation exclusive. We're excited to take the next step in our growth alongside our longtime WWS partners. Insomniac will become an exclusive PlayStation developer, Sony says. Building on a working relationship between Insomniac Games and SIE spanning more than 20 years, this acquisition enhances the creative force within SIE WWS and formally adds a studio to the PlayStation family that continues to raise the bar on open world, story-driven games.

"Insomniac Games is one of the most highly-acclaimed development studios in the industry and their legacy of best-in class storytelling and gameplay is unparalleled", said Shawn Layden, Chairman, SIE WWS. "Most of all, we look forward to delivering fresh, new experiences for our fans".
