Michigan State is actually the fourth-highest ranked team from the Big Ten, behind Penn State, Michigan and Ohio State which are all in the top 15.

College football begins this Saturday, and there's no greater indicator of the approaching season than the AP Top 25 preseason poll. They must believe in Scott Frost and his squad, who won four of their last six past year.

Michigan State finished the 2018 season with a 7-6 record and that was considered incredibly disappointed, especially with all the talent that returned from a 10-win team in 2017. That has occurred in 15 of the last 19 preseason polls.

Alabama was slotted behind Clemson in the first Associated Press poll of 2019 and ranked ahead of Georgia, Oklahoma and Ohio State, who were No. 3, 4 and 5 respectively. At No. 23, Iowa State joins OU and Texas. Clemson received 52 of the 62 first-place votes while Alabama, ranked No. 2, received the other 10. The Tide is among four SEC teams ranked in the top ten.

Junior tight end Grant Calcaterra, junior wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, junior linebacker Kenneth Murray, sophomore running back Kennedy Brooks and sophomore offensive lineman Creed Humphrey were among the 28 players to earn preseason all-conference recognition by position.

UC Davis was two spots behind the Eagles with a fifth-place preseason poll ranking.
