After Texas, shooting rampage in OH; at least nine dead, 16 injured

Dayton police confirmed on Sunday that Megan Kathleen Betts, 22, the sister of alleged gunman Connor Betts, was among the nine victims killed in a mass shooting early Sunday morning.

Whaley said the suspect was wearing body armor and was armed with a rifle firing.223-caliber rounds from high-capacity ammunition magazines. "Grateful for the courageous efforts and swift action by federal law enforcement and local first responders", he said.

According to a press conference given by Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley, at least 26 others were injured, but no details about the victims were released.

Less than 24 hours after the mass shooting in El Paso, police and emergency services responded to reports of an active shooter in Dayton, Ohio.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott said the rampage appeared to be a hate crime, and police cited a "manifesto" they attributed to the suspect, a 21-year-old white man, as evidence that the bloodshed was racially motivated.

The latest shooting occurred outside a Dayton tavern called Ned Peppers Bar. It came just hours after a young man opened fire in a crowded El Paso, Tex., shopping area, leaving 20 dead and more than two dozen injured.

He said he and his friends consider the area a safe, fun place to hang out on weekends, where many people walk around outdoors and enjoy patios at restaurants and bars. Kettering Health Network spokeswoman Elizabeth Long said multiple victims from a shooting had been brought to system hospitals, but she didn't have details on how many. Carper said that police are investigating whether the suspect acted alone. "The FBI are on the scene assisting but we are leading the investigation".

The shooting is believed to have happened outside a bar in Dayton, Ohio, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

On Friday, Gilroy Police Chief Scot Smithee confirmed the Gilroy Garlic Festival shooter died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

The Dayton Police Department said on Twitter that the shooting happened at 1 AM in the city's Oregon District near downtown.

DeWine issued his own statement, announcing that he ordered flags in OH to remain at half-mast and offering assistance to Whaley and prayers for the victims. "Information is rapidly being accumulated in Dayton", the president said in a tweet, adding that "law enforcement was very rapid in both instances".

Several eyewitnesses reported on social media seeing multiple people wounded.
