Fognini apologized during his post-match press conference, stating the comments came in the heat of the moment; he was upset about his play and the court's conditions.
Fognini has a history of on court tirades with the Italian defaulted from the 2017 US Open after a foul-mouthed rant to an umpire in his first round match.
"Damn, English, really. Damned really", he said as the on-court microphones picked up his outburst.

Fognini is in a two-year grand slam probationary period after getting kicked out of the 2017 US Open for insulting female chair umpire Louise Engzelle by calling her a w****. If somebody feels offended, I say sorry.
Fognini received three fines from the International Tennis Federation totalling almost $A35,000.
It is far from a first offence for Fognini, who was fined a then record 27,500 U.S. dollars (approximately £21,600) at Wimbledon in 2014 for a series of offences during a first-round match.
Wimbledon was hit by a bomb during World World II that damaged the Centre Court roof.
Wimbledon must now decide how severely to punish Fognini for this latest act.
Fognini was put on probation for two years with an assurance the fine would halved if he didn't misbehave at the majors through 2018-2019.
