Halle Bailey Set To Play Ariel In Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’ Remake

Singer Janelle Monae sent her well wishes, writing: "Our Ariel @chloexhalle flawless choice congratssss Halle my love".

Disney has finally cast the lead role in its live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, and fans are elated that Ariel will be played by Halle Bailey. It's also being reported that Bailey has been the clear front runner for this role since the very beginning.

For their new version of The Little Mermaid, Disney is pairing Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken to create a blend of old and new songs that will be featured in the upcoming big screen version.

One half of the Grammy-nominated sibling R&B duo Chloe x Halle, she was named for the part after an "extensive search", director Rob Marshall said.

"I LOVE YOU! thank you", replied Bailey, who along with her sister Chloe, is also a cast member on ABC TV series Grown-ish.

The announcement marks the first time Disney has cast a woman of color in the role of a traditionally white princess for one of its live-action remakes. Some of the tunes include 'Under the Sea, ' "Part of Your World" and 'Kiss the Girl'.

The Chloe x Halle Twitter account posted the below tweet shortly after the news went out.

Variety confirmed Bailey's casting, detailing that director Rob Marshall (Mary Poppins Returns) was blown away by the young star's huge talents.

Their rendition of Beyoncé's "Pretty Hurts" caught the singer's attention and she signed them to her label in 2016, according to Rolling Stone. However, rapper Lizzo is upset with the reports of Melissa McCarthy being considered and has been lobbying for the role on Twitter.

She's got gadgets and gizmos aplenty and, now, Halle Bailey is getting more.

Lady and the Tramp and Mulan are in various stages of production but it's arguable that The Little Mermaid is the project that has the most attention.
