So far in the tournament, Spain beat South Africa 3-0, lost to Germany 1-0, and tied China 0-0 in their group stage.

The United States kileld any tension from the build-up, focused on the 2016 Olympic loss to Sweden, by scoring the first goal of the night in less than three minutes into the game.

CANADA-SWEDENCanada heads into its knockout round match against Sweden (1 p.m., FS1) in Paris with captain Christine Sinclair sitting at 182 career goals, just two away from matching the worldwide record set by former US forward Abby Wambach. However, the U.S. has now emphatically answered their most vocal doubters with resounding victories in all three of their group stage games: 13-0 over Thailand, 3-0 over Chile, and 2-0 over Sweden.

With the win, the Americans will play Spain in the Round of 16 on Monday at noon ET. Between then and now it appeared in just one World Cup, a group-stage flameout in 1999, but now it's in the knockout round, a group victor and now a favorite over China, no less.

Where can individuals get tickets for Sweden vs USA? At no point in any of those games has the USA looked pressured and that has allowed Jill Ellis to play 21 of her 23 players (the only two players not to see the field are the two backup goalkeepers).

Earlier, Ajara Nchout fired Cameroon into the last 16 with a brilliant goal at the death that gave the Indomitable Lionesses a dramatic 2-1 win over eliminated New Zealand.

While scrolling through your social media feeds, you've probably also seen headlines about how the 28 players who make up the player pool for the USWNT are suing US Soccer, the same organization who pays their salaries, for pay equality.

In that game, Sweden hunkered down defensively and prevented the US offense from getting chances. Team Sweden is no stranger to having success at the Women's World Cup. Morgan went down when chasing the ball in the first half, falling hard on her right knee, an injury that has kept her out of the competition before.

Granted, the Swedes made seven lineup changes ahead of the Group F finale, because like the US they had already punched their ticket to the knockout round.

And Sweden dealt the US one especially painful defeat: knocking the Americans out of the 2016 Summer Olympics in the quarterfinals, the earliest the USA squad has ever left a major tournament. The USA seem to be compulsively breaking records at this tournament and Lindsey Horan's opener was the fastest of the World Cup so far, Megan Rapinoe whipping in a low ball at a corner which was flicked on by Sam Mewis for Horan to smash in from point-blank range.

She replaced Alex Morgan, who was involved in a couple of collisions in the first half and at one point held her right knee. They will be relishing the knockout stages, and are very much the team in form. Led the line with intent and determination, but is still looking for a first goal at this World Cup.

"This record doesn't belong to me, it belongs to all of us", she said after the game.

USA defender Abby Dahlkemper agreed: "It's in our team's DNA to want to win and do really well".

Julie Ertz notched a header at the near post for the second goal of the game and was it pretty.

The Italians are the biggest surprise of the tournament so far.
