Square Enix gives us our first look at Marvel's Avengers

Marvel’s Avengers release date revealed alongside first trailer

Marvel's Avengers launches May 15, 2020

This year's E3 celebration has already boasted plenty of exciting video game announcements. If Square Enix can capture half of the drama that Insomniac did, it'll be a strong campaign indeed.

You can play Marvel's Avengers on May 15, 2020 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

The looks appropriately Avengers-y, with Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, and Captain America all proudly featured. Unfortunately, the festivities are short-lived, as an explosion on the Golden Gate Bridge spurs the heroes into action.

Rather than rendering the characters to look like their big screen counterparts, developers Crystal Dynamics - who recently rebooted the Tomb Raider games - have designed them to look totally different, nearly distractingly so, and fans have shared their confusion online.

"You will instantly recognize your favorite superheroes and villains", said Rosemann. Parts of this will see you bouncing between the game's five heroes, while others will focus on specific characters and their unique gameplay abilities. The title, featuring an original story about a more experienced wall-crawler facing the Sinister Six rogues gallery, quickly became a moneymaker for the Marvel and Sony gaming divisions. To me, it seems to best resemble something like a Borderlands game, which also offers a surfeit of different weapon and skin options. An all-star cast of voice actors has been brought together for the game, including Troy Baker as Bruce Banner, Nolan North as Tony Stark, Laura Bailey as Black Widow, Travis Willingham as Thor, and someone whose name we didn't catch portraying Captain America.

The studio says the game will have four-player, online co-op play, and there will also be numerous games in this new series, with a multi-year arc planned for the narrative. They did quell fears, revealing all the heroes and regions added will come at "no additional cost". They will, however have early beta access for PS4 and platform specific benefits.
