Unfortunately, just like that Minecraft Earth reveal from a couple of weeks back, Square Enix's Dragon Quest Walk reveal was pretty light on details.
Square Enix revealed during a press conference on June 3 a brand new Dragon Quest game for mobiles, Dragon Quest Walk. So far it seems a lot less social than Go, which bodes well for a lack of predatory microtransactions, but maybe not so much for its longevity.
A Beta Test for Dragon Quest Walk will begin soon in Japan, with 20K players selected, half on Android, half on iOS. It's unknown how the publisher intends to roll the game out worldwide. It may even tie into the next mainline DQ game, Dragon Quest XII.
In Dragon Walk, you walk through an in-game field, which is filled with real-world Japanese landmarks like Tokyo Tower, and battle monsters.
A story that develops as you walk.
According to Gematsu, series executive producer Yuu Miyake said during the briefing that Dragon Quest Walk may have some connection to the unannounced Dragon Quest XII in some capacity.
He said, "By the way, about Dragon Quest XII, which I'm sure is on everyone's mind-[Yuji] Horii and I are now making preparations on series developments that will connect to XII. I think it's still too early, but we would like to announce it in some form, so please wait a little while longer".
Above you'll find a trailer that displays Dragon Quest imagery as though it exists in the real world, which plays into the theme of this upcoming augmented reality title.
