Disney+, which is Disney's first foray into direct-to-consumer streaming service, will debut exclusively in the USA sometime this fall. After Netflix's Success, Google-Owned YouTube Working on Interactive & Live Content. We are confident that the combination of our unrivaled storytelling, beloved brands, iconic franchises, and cutting-edge technology will make Disney+ a standout in the marketplace, and deliver significant value for consumers and shareholders alike, said Bob Iger, chairman and CEO, Disney.
Disney+ will host a series of Pixar shorts called Forky Asks A Question, based on the new character in Toy Story 4, available on Day 1 of the launch. In addition, Disney's absorption of Fox's entertainment assets provides "an unparalleled arsenal of IP to support its streaming services", Cucinello said.
Within the first year of launch, which begins on November 12, audiences can have access to Disney's entire Pixar film collection, as well as Marvel's most recent superhero release Captain Marvel and many more of the studios popular films. An entire creative team at Marvel Studios is dedicated to growing these Disney+ original titles, which Feige revealed more details about in his presentation.
Disney has already said that it wouldn't renew current licensing deals with Netflix.
During the Disney+ streaming announcement, Disney studios played a video to preview what the new streaming service will look like and what kind of content you'll be able to stream. Disney executives said that its films would become available on the platform directly after their home release, meaning the places they've always been available for rent, such as through Apple or Amazon Prime Video, may feel some heat here.
It will be the exclusive home for streaming Marvel, "Star Wars", Disney Animation and Pixar for relatively cheap: Disney+ will cost half of what Netflix charges for its standard plan. These films, most of which have previously been rotated in and out of the 'vault, ' include both classics and contemporary titles, such as Pinocchio, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, and Snow White.
With Disney+, Disney is looking to leverage its extensive lineup of properties across all of its subsidiaries, including Walt Disney Studios., Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm.
Because of Disney's recent merger with Fox, it'll also mean all 30 seasons of The Simpsons will be there.
