Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is after a right-back this summer with Antonio Valencia set to depart Old Trafford on a free transfer, following nearly a decade at the club.
The week before the pair either played in or plotted what proved to be a second-leg procession for Barca against Lyon, a thumping 5-1 victory, they looked across the continent as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men overcame the odds to beat Paris Saint-Germain 3-1 in France and reach the quarter-finals on away goals, thanks to Marcus Rashford's last-gasp penalty.
Pique, who spent four years at United as a youngster, returns to Old Trafford this week for the first time since moving back to Barca in 2008.
"He was a great teammate to me when I arrived at Manchester United as a 17-year-old", Pique said of the current boss.
"He's a fantastic player and will go down in history as one of the best individual players ever".
It's not like it's Messi against Manchester United.
"It was a great experience to train alongside him", Pique remembered.
Meanwhile, Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho named two of the Manchester United players as the biggest dangers to the Catalans, in the upcoming games. "There's some fantastic attacking players on display".
However, Valverde is confident Messi will be primed to impress against a team he has twice scored against in the final of this competition, in 2009 and 2011. They need to continue their pursuit of the Serbian as he possesses a high level of technical ability and intelligence that would make him a good fit at the club.
They have not won the Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson's final season in charge in 2013, with rivals Manchester City lifting the trophy twice in that time. Things aren't [going as well at the moment] but I hope they change and quickly they get back on top.
The central defender also had words for Real Madrid: "It is not a surprised. Real Madrid have won the Champions Leagues that they have won these years, but we have also had success".
But regardless of what Solskjaer would like to see happen regarding Pogba's future, the comments of Zidane and the player himself would indicate that a move to Real Madrid could very well be on the cards.
