The Syracuse Orange's first-round assignment of facing No. 9-seed Baylor Bears was already going to be hard, but now No. 8-seed Syracuse will have to manage Thursday without one of its starting guards.

Details regarding the nature of Howard's suspension were not shared in the release.

Howard started 28 games for the Orange this season, averaging 8.9 points per game and averaging almost 27 minutes on the floor per night. Based on what Tyus Battle and Oshae Brissett said on Wednesday during media availability, the SU players had learned of the news recently.

Even with all of Syracuse's struggles with offensive efficiency, they have more scorers than the hobbled Bears. Mason could change the outcome for the Bears if he can rekindle the magic he had with Yale in 2016, but that seems unlikely with how he's played lately.
