Apple Updates The iPad Air And iPad Mini

All-new iPad Air and iPad mini deliver dramatic power and capability

Apple finally releases updated iPad Mini, but comes with the same-old boring design

Apple iPad mini and iPad Air accessories For those unaware, the Apple Pencil (1st generation) is available for purchase separately for Rs 8,500.

Instead, the 2nd gen model still only works with the iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation) and the iPad Pro 11-inch.

Apple has tinkered with its iPad line, resurrecting the Air and administering a bit of mouth-to-mouth to the Mini as the company battles tottering sales. There's the same A12 Bionic chip as in the new iPad Air, for instance, and the same maximum 256 GB of storage.

Unlike the iPad Pro, both these new iPads have Touch ID, and no Face ID.

Rocking a 10.5-inch Retina display and A12 bionic chip, the new device is quite the update from the previous model, originally released in 2014. Notably, every iPad in Apple's lineup now supports the Apple Pencil.

Apple today rolled out new iPad models, including a refresh for the iPad mini which was last updated three and a half years ago.

What's more, B&H will throw in a free tempered glass screen protector for your new tablet, saving you an extra $19.95.

At times, it felt like Apple had given up completely on the iPad mini. Pricing for the 64GB model starts at $399 for the Wi-Fi model and goes up to $529 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular version, while the 256GB variant starts at $549 for the Wi-Fi model and is $679 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular model. You must add AppleCare+ within 60 days of purchasing any iPad model. Wide color support is 25 percent brighter, Apple says, and the device has the highest pixel density of any iPad. The new iPad mini also has an advanced Retina display with True Tone now, and it will support the Apple Pencil as well. The Touch ID sensor is there, the Pencil support is for the older model (not the wirelessly charging one), the Lightning connector remains and the stereo speakers are the same.

It feels a little bit exhausted to draw on this trope though: like most things Apple, you can spin the line of 'it's too expensive!' when you write about the headline price. The battery is rated to last up to 10 hours of use on Wi-Fi or up to nine hours on cellular.

Since an early Q2 launch was the expected time frame for some new iPads, we're not exactly surprised to see them. Both the devices will be available in Silver, Space Grey and Gold colour options along with separate Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + Cellular connectivity options.
