Rivals will clash tonight when the fourth-ranked Duke Blue Devils will try to avenge last month's loss to the third-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels. The Duke Blue Devils star - who is expected to go first overall in the National Basketball Association draft - broke through his shoe just 30 seconds into their matchup on February 20th.
Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski remains doubtful star Zion Williamson will be on the court Saturday vs. He has recently taken visits to Duke, NC State, Tennessee and Virginia, and will take another trip to North Carolina - his second in three weeks - on Saturday.
The 18-year-old is averaging 21.6 points and 8.8 rebounds in 26 appearances this season.
Under head coach Joanne McCallie, the Blue Devils are 6-2 in their opening-round games in the ACC Tournament. North Carolina is 3-9-1 ATS in its last 13 home games versus the Blue Devils.
Without Williamson, Duke looks like a team that may have trouble getting out of the NCAA Tournament's first weekend.
"We've never played this early in a long time, it was new for us" Suggs said.
Even when Zion Williamson returns to the lineup for Duke, it could be too late. "For the most part, I thought we competed". "I'd be surprised if he's not ready by the ACC tournament". Like most teams, this is clearly not one built to win six straight games without its best player.
The status of Zion Williamson is unknown as I am writing this.
In the end, none of Wake Forest's misses were bigger than Chaundee Brown's would-be game-winning putback that rolled off the rim as time expired.
Freshman point guard Tre Jones also limped to the locker room in the second half after bumping his right knee. Chanin Scott posted a double-double and was one of three players to finish with double-figure scoring numbers.
"His knee is going to be OK", Krzyzewski said. You are going to play.' The kid is a victor.
