Xiaomi has been working on 5G trials with China Mobile and named 5G partnerships with Vodeafone, TIM, 3, and Sunrise during its announcement, and it even demod the Snapdragon X50 5G modem inside the Mi Mix 5G live on stage using Orange Spain's 5G network.
It is unlikely that these smartphones will come to the Indian market, considering most Mi flagship devices have stayed away, except for the Mi 4 and Mi 5. Moreover, the Mi Mix 3 5G will go on sale starting May this year through Authorised Mi Stores, Mi.com, and select retail channels. Shortly after, the company teased that the same model would be getting a 5G version, and at the MWC 2019 trade show, we've been treated to just that. In terms of storage, Mi MIX 3 comes in four variants of 6GB+128GB, 8GB+128GB, 8GB+256GB and 10GB+256GB. This means that the smartphone features a magnetic slider design and it comes with ceramic body. The Mi MIX 3 5G also features the same dual 12MP main cameras with AI assistance plus a 24MP + 2MP dual-camera combo for the front. It packs a 3,200mAh battery along with fast charging and wireless charging. It is powered by the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC along with an Snapdragon X50 5G modem that is touted to deliver 20 times sustained performance.
"5G is here, not in 2020, not late 2020; it's here right now in 2019", Cristiano Amon, president of chipmaker Qualcomm, which supplies Xiaomi, said during a launch event. The company has also introduced the global variant of the Xiaomi Mi 9 as well.
The Mi Mix 3 5G price starts at Euro 599 (roughly Rs.48,300).
The Mi 9 is available in Spain, France and Italy for pre-order now; it will show up in stores on February 28. It will be available in Ocean Blue, Lavender Violet, and Piano Black colours in Western Europe.
With a triple camera setup and an in-display fingerprint scanner, the Mi 9 is certainly a worthy contender in the flagship race.
