Eriksen future could be out of Tottenham’s hands - Pochettino

Tranmere Rovers

Tranmere Rovers are ninth in League Two- three points off a play-off place

Mauricio Pochettino admitted Christian Eriksen's future is largely beyond Tottenham's control as transfer speculation intensifies around the playmaker.

He said: "Mentality is one of the keys because in this type of game you must play with the right attitude and right mentality and of course, be humble and show respect to the opponent".

The Denmark worldwide has just 18 months remaining on his contract and has been linked with several of Europe's biggest clubs.

According to Tottenham, Eriksen has scored 19 Premier League goals from outside the box - more than any other player in the division since making his debut in September 2013.

"It would be fantastic if Christian Eriksen committed to the club for a long time". He is showing his commitment.

The midfielder appears to be keeping his options open, but Spurs reportedly want a deal signed before the end of the season.

Dembele, who is out of contract in the summer, is wanted by Chinese Super League club Beijing Guoan.

If Eriksen decides against a new contract, then Tottenham could choose to sell him in the summer rather than risk losing him on a free next year.

While that barren run may come to an end this year, as they prepare for an FA Cup visit to Tranmere ahead of an EFL Cup semi-final with Chelsea, the Argentine boss explained that trophies aren't as important as consistency in the Premier League.

"At the moment I don't have any news. Then it is about negotiating, talking, and seeing what the different parties want".

Spurs cruised to a 7-0 away victory against League Two Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park and there were plenty of rotations within the squad by manager Mauricio Pochettino.
