Police mourn after doughnut van perishes in blaze

Officers in Kentucky went viral on New Year's Eve after mourning the loss of a truckload of doughnuts.

Police in Lexington, Ky. mocked themselves after a fire that destroyed a Krispy Kreme doughnuts truck and the doughnuts inside.

Lexington police were able to make light of the situation after everything was resolved, as they took to social media to show their displeasure over the loss of the truck.

"Police said the truck driver noticed smoke billowing from the rear of the truck", according to WLEX.

"No words", the officers wrote in a tweet alongside the photos, including a crying emoji.

Authorities are still investigating what caused the fire.

Police tell LEX 18 that there were donuts in the back of the truck and they have all been lost.

"We feel your loss", the University of Kentucky Police Department wrote.

"We're thinking of you during this hard time...and have more doughnuts on the way!" the company tweeted Tuesday.
