Cell Phone Calls In Massachusetts Affected Briefly By CenturyLink Outage

National Century Link outage continues into Friday

Over a dozen counties in North Texas were part of a nationwide outage that prevented people from calling 911 on their cell phones on Thursday night and into Friday.

The company said in a tweet Thursday that it estimated service would be restored around 1 a.m. Friday, but discovered additional problems.

"We continue to make good progress with our recovery efforts and we are working tirelessly until restoration is complete", CenturyLink said.

A nationwide outage involving an internet company affected 911 cell phone calls in MA early Friday morning, according to State Police.

CRESA said it received reports from first responders in the field about individuals who were not aware of the outage or how to reach 911.

As of 8 a.m., technical issues with the 911 system were resolved, Procopio said.

The Federal Communications Commission was investigating the CenturyLink outage, Chairman Ajit Pai announced Friday.

Many Washington residents woke up to see this alert Friday.

"The CenturyLink service outage is ... completely unacceptable, and its breadth and duration are particularly troubling", said Pai in a statement. "I've directed the Public Safety and Homeland Security bureau to immediately launch an investigation into the cause and impact of this outage". Downdectector.com, a website that tracks realtime outages of internet providers, said affected customers were in Denver, Portland, Seattle, Los Angeles, Dallas, Salt Lake City, Albuquerque, Boise, Chicago, Phoenix and other areas.

There is still no time to when full service will be restored to all CenturyLink affected customers.
