The Chiefs are moving quickly to replace the spot Kareem Hunt left in the backfield.

Hunt was immediately released from the Chiefs organization when the video was released online by TMZ on November 30, bringing a premature end to a season in which the former Toledo Rocket had plundered an impressive seven touchdowns in 11 games.

Hunt spoke with ESPN's Lisa Salters in an interview and expressed his remorse over the incident, accepting responsibility for his actions while looking to redeem his character.

However, Hunt is on the commissioner's exempt list, meaning he can not practice or play in games. It was to little avail as Hunt pushed the woman several times, along with the man who was trying to restrain him.

The Kansas City Chiefs cut Kareem Hunt, one of the NFL's top running backs, on Friday, hours after the release of a video showing him attacking a woman. Although they did their homework on linebacker Reuben Foster earlier this week after Foster was released for domestic violence, the fact there is video of evidence of Hunt - fair or not - makes this situation completely different. Cleveland Police Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia told Cleveland.com in February that since it was a cross complaint, no charges would be filed unless one of the two (Hunt or the woman) went to the prosecutor's office and asked to have charges pursued.

The Chiefs announced Friday evening that the team is releasing Hunt immediately. "You need to just live one day at a time".

Hunt said that he said he has "for sure, definitely" sought counseling since the issue and that he's going to "keep talking to my people about getting that arranged and set up".

He will likely face a suspension of at least six games, as the NFL intends to punish Hunt for this incident and a separate altercation he had with a man in June, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

"It could be an issue", Hunt told ESPN on Sunday morning.

"I don't want to get anything to distract from how tough a place this is to play [and] my locker room leadership overcoming the situation we had there, which can be a distraction, and [they] stepped up today in a place that we haven't always come out with this kind of result". If no team claims him, he will enter free agency. I'm very embarrassed about it. He can not serve his suspension until claimed by a team.

He says he believes he deserves forgiveness because he's sacrificed a lot to get to his position in the NFL.

"I am asking for forgiveness". Hunt said he wanted her to leave, but was vague on details. "I hope to move on from this". I didn't mean to hurt anybody or anything like that. "It was really tough to watch". "I regret the entire thing and I'm gonna take the time to you know, like I said, better myself and learn from this".
