Los Angeles defeated the visiting Atlanta Hawks 107-106 on Sunday night after LeBron James dunked an offensive rebound for a one-point lead with 15 seconds left, and newly acquired center Tyler Chandler blocked a driving layup by Atlanta rookie point guard Trae Young to preserve the win.
Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James shoots a free throw to surpass Wilt Chamberlain's for career points and move into fifth place, during the second half of the team's NBA basketball game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018, in Los Angeles.
Rondo will see a specialist Thursday to determine whether to opt for surgery, a team source told ESPN.
Rondo suffered the injury while making a steal in the fourth quarter.
The only downside for the Lakers came with an injury to Rajon Rondo, who faces at least two weeks on the sidelines after suffering a broken hand.
"I had to sit back and remind myself, 'You knew what you were getting yourself into.' This process has been good for me".
LeBron James' inimitable presence has already been felt in his first few weeks in Hollywood.
"He's one or our captains. I know he'll get right to it with his rehab, but it's next man up". He is averaging 9.3 points, 6.8 assists and 4.8 rebounds on the season.
James scored 16 points with five assists in that third quarter alone.
"Size-wise we feel like we can gain an advantage", coach Luke Walton said last week. So it's going to be tough having him out.
For starters, the veteran experience and knowledge that this Lakers team already possessed before Chandler arriving can not go unnoticed. While the initial belief was that he was exclusively to back up and mentor Lonzo Ball, the veteran point guard was given an opportunity to compete for a starting role. "But the way we make up for it, there's obviously not another Rondo to put out there to do that stuff but it is one of those things where as a group, as a team, we all have to do a little more to make up for it".
