Comic book enthusiasts across the City of Cape Town are grieving the loss of legendary writer, editor and Marvel Cinematic Universe comics publisher Stan Lee. In 1971, Kirby even created a comic character based on Lee called the Funky Flashman who was a money-hungry man that took advantage of others and tricked people into thinking he was making creative contributions.

Grummett said he was five or six years old when he would "risk his hide" crossing Saskatoon's 22nd Street to buy an Avengers comic book, because Lee's characters were that dear to him.

"So touched by all of the celebrities posting pictures of themselves with Stan Lee... no better way to commemorate an absolute legend than putting up a picture of yourself", he wrote.

He added that the scale of Lee's imagination was only exceeded by the size of his heart. "I fondly remember reading his comic books and imagining Stan Lee's creations".

Here are just some of the tributes that have been paid to Mr Lee, including some from those who we worked with in the hugely successful Marvel movies.

Did Stan Lee inspire you as much as he did all of us?

Lee was known for his cameo roles in most Marvel films, pulling a girl away from falling debris in 2002's "Spider-Man" and serving as an emcee at a strip club in 2016's "Deadpool". "Without it, they might go off the deep end". For the full list, head to Wikipedia and the full list of well over 300 characters, all attributed to Stan Lee in one way or another. He exuded love and kindness and will leave an indelible mark on so, so, so many lives.

Just one of many great stories to come to light over the last day or so. Lee was also involved in multiple business-related lawsuits, and the subject of a Los Angeles Police Department investigation into alleged elder abuse against him.
