UFC 230 Results: Daniel Cormier Vs Derrick Lewis

Daniel Cormier On Brock Lesnar, Jon Jones: 'The Mega Fight Is Jones & I'

Derrick Lewis Says Prison, Rough Past Led To UFC Stardom

Daniel Cormier has cemented his spot as the baddest man on the planet with a dominant second round submission win over Derrick Lewis at UFC 230.

Lewis propelled himself to the title bout with a thunderous victory over Alexander Volkov at UFC 229.

Whether Lewis eats some Popeyes before his fight with Cormier at UFC 230 remains to be seen.

And why not? This will not go down as one of the best UFC headliners this year, but Cormier will go down as one of the best fighters ever, and there's no question he's on borrowed time.

Lewis didn't get back up again.

He quickly turned his attentions to former UFC heavyweight champion and current WWE star Brock Lesnar, with a match in 2019 looming.

Cormier called out Lesnar for a blockbuster heavyweight bout. Cormier has never lost to anyone except Jones, the star-crossed former light heavyweight champion who beat him twice.

In the event, a clinical, controlled performance from Cormier meant he retained his heavyweight strap to keep alongside his light heavyweight version, and became the first man to defend belts in two weight divisions.

Cormier got stung by a right hand from Lewis in the second but the champion soon had his opponent back on the canvas, a rear-naked choke finishing the job at 2.14.

In the co-main event, Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza earned a stunning third-round knockout win over hometown favourite Chris Weidman in a fight of the night contender.

In between rounds, Cormier's corner instructed him to do the exact same thing and exhausted the Black Beast out.

"Bring that belt with you when you come to my house", Cormier said.

"I believe they're sick of him", Lewis said. "I just like to have a good time and I like to make people laugh". "The Black Beast" reflects on a whirlwind last three months for him and how he was mentally draining for him. "If you have a puncher's chance it's not good enough". Brunson pressured Adesanya and worked to get the fight to the ground but couldn't control the Nigerian.

Jared Cannonier claimed one of the biggest victories of his career when he finished David Branch in the second round, with Karl Roberson scoring a decision over Jack Marshman and Israel Adesanya kicking things off on the main card with a first round TKO vs. Derek Brunson.
