Gutekunst spoke to reporters for approximately 10 minutes to detail his decisions to trade starting safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and third-string tailback Ty Montgomery for draft picks.

Clinton-Dix wore Taylor's jersey number 21 in Green Bay, and says he'll wear number 20 for the Redskins, who took Taylor's number out of circulation after his death in 2007.

Clinton-Dix had recorded three interceptions, three passes defensed, one forced fumble and 27 tackles for the Packers this season.

According to numerous reports, the Packers have traded Clinton-Dix to the Washington Redskins.

"Much love y'all (cheese emoji)", Clinton-Dix tweeted shortly before the news broke.

The Packers are gambling with the safety position for the rest of the 2018 season, but there was sound reasoning behind dealing Clinton-Dix now.

With five deals going down over the last 24 hours, a score of players will be looking for new homes in new cities, including one, Golden Tate, who's now a member of the Philadelphia Eagles (more on that here).

The Detroit Lions were not the only NFC North team to make an interesting choice and roster move in advance of the trade deadline. Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy said he was told to take the touchback. The Packers did not get the ball back, as the Rams ran out the clock. It seems likely Green Bay didn't want to pay him after this season, as he remains in a contract year.

A wide receiver coming out of college, Montgomery transitioned to running back during the 2016 season and stayed there full time entering 2017. He registered 849 rushing yards on 177 attempts (4.8 avg.) with seven touchdowns and hauled in 97 passes for 827 yards (8.5 avg.) and three TDs.

McClellan, 32, was released by the Ravens at final cuts but re-signed in September after an injury to C.J. Mosley.
