We knew The CW found the ideal person to play Batwoman when the network first cast Ruby Rose in the role, but now that we've got our first look at her. umm, is it time for the Arrowverse crossover yet?
The Colleen Atwood-designed costume is comic book accurate with the Bat symbol, cape, and Kate Kane's long cherry-red hair.
Ruby Rose is taking on the role of Kate Kane, who'll debut in the three-part event between Supergirl, Arrow, and The Flash (Legends of Tomorrow is sitting this one out) before her own spin-off potentially launches next year (The CW have ordered a pilot episode).
The CW has released, via THR, a first look image at their new Batwoman. Along with the her lesbian identity, The Hollywood Reporter points out, Kate Kane comes "armed with a passion for social justice and flair for speaking her mind". The network is also planning a standalone Batwoman TV series for 2019.
"Growing up watching TV, I never saw somebody I could identify with, let alone a superhero", Ruby Rose said of the casting news this summer on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. But don't call her a hero yet. Pulling herself out of a destructive cycle, she chooses to become Batwoman and fight crime.
"[Ruby] is terrific in the role", Berlanti continued, "and we're excited for people to see the story". "Twitter didn't exist, but we would get boxes of letters expressing opinions in all directions from were we making enough change, should we be making more change, or why did we feel like we needed to do these things?" If the series is picked up it will make her the first openly gay superhero to star in a live-action television series or movie.
