President Donald Trump on Tuesday openly mocked the university professor who has accused his Supreme Court nominee of sexual assault, joking about her inability to remember details surrounding the night of the alleged attack.
"Somebody could come and say 30 years ago, 25 years ago, 10 years ago, five years ago, he did a awful thing to me". While Kavanaugh was not "perfect with respect to alcohol", Trump said he knew opposition Democrat senators who are not "angels".
He apparently believes it's okay to short-circuit the legal process - in this case the FBI investigation he authorized - and just jump to the conclusion Ford must be a liar. 'I had one beer.' Right?
In a separate statement on Twitter, John Clune, who represents another accuser, Deborah Ramirez, said Federal Bureau of Investigation agents interviewed her on Sunday and accepted a list of more than 20 witnesses who can support her allegations. I don't remember. How'd you get there? "She was clear about what she couldn't remember as well, and crystal clear about the things she says she can never forget".
"It is a very scary time for young men in America, where you can be guilty of something you may not be guilty of", Trump told reporters outside the White House.
"The president was also incensed by allegations that Kavanaugh attended parties where women were gang raped, a claim made by Julie Swetnick, who is a client of Stormy Daniels' attorney Michael Avenatti, who has discussed running for president against Trump in 2020". You could be someone that was ideal your whole life, and somebody else could accuse you of something.
"I don't remember", he said in his Ford voice.
"I drank beer with my friends".
Judge Brett Kavanaugh strongly denies the claims brought against him, leaving us in a situation where evidence is absolutely critical to determining what happened in this specific situation. "There's been a lot of people over the past year that have lied to Congress", Trump said.
After her testimony, even Trump himself called her "very credible", and even few Republicans questioned that she truly was a victim of sexual assault, even while they expressed doubts about the identity of her attack.
"Hopefully, as Mitch said, they'll have a vote by the end of the week and it will be a positive vote", he said.
Judge's interview started but "has not been completed", his attorney said in a statement quoted by Fox News.
During the 2016 campaign, at least 15 women accused Trump of misbehavior ranging from sexual harassment and sexual assault to lewd behavior around women.
