Mourinho won't name Pogba captain again

GETTY Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho admits he knew Phil Jones would miss in the shootout

The £89 million midfielder has been dropped from the squad for tonight's Carabao Cup match against Derby County at Old Trafford. "We are here to attack", Pogba told the media after the match.

Mourinho's decision to give Pogba the armband on that occasion came hard on the heels of suggestions Barcelona were pressing to sign the 25-year-old.

The player and manager have seemed increasingly at odds over recent months, and on Saturday Pogba launched a not-too-subtle attack on his coach by urging United to change their style and "attack, attack, attack".

Sources close to the club were not surprised by the latest development, which will only increase speculation as to whether Pogba will stay at Old Trafford.

"I don't think he (Sanchez) can warrant a place at the moment when you've got Martial and Rashford who are waiting to play", Wright said.

Pogba suggested earlier in the season he could not speak his mind without risking being fined by the club, while Mourinho has denied a rift with his star player.

José Mourinho has told Paul Pogba that he will never captain Manchester United again, according to reports.

"I'm not the manager, I can not, like, say that, but obviously we should show more options of playing". That's my way of thinking - we should move better, we should move more, yeah.

The youngster has been in decent form this campaign and the Times (h/t Mirror) claims that Wolves want £110m for the player.

But Derby threatened throughout and got an equaliser in the second half when on-loan Liverpool winger Harry Wilson scored a brilliant free-kick from distance which completed deceived United goalkeeper Sergio Romero.

"Going after the sixth and seventh I knew we would be in trouble with Jones and Eric [Bailly]".
