Cleveland, looking to win its first game in more than a year, fell in the final seconds of the contest against the New Orleans Saints.
It's common thought that "NFL" really symbolizes "Not For Long", and no team reflects that better than the Cleveland Browns.
Joseph is an undrafted rookie from Florida Atlantic.
The Browns signed free agent kicker Greg Joseph to replace Gonzalez, according to the Associated Press.
Nevertheless, Joseph is set to become Cleveland's kicker of the hour.
In Sunday's 21-18 loss to the Saints, Gonzalez missed two extra-point kicks and two field goals, including one that would have tied the game at the end of regulation.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Gonzalez had been kicking with a groin injury that will require an MRI Monday.
Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot tweeted that the Browns had informed Gonzalez that he's getting released; however, if Gonzalez is injured, the team must either waive him with the injured designation, or he could receive an injury settlement. Later, with the chance to give Cleveland a 15-3 lead early in the fourth quarter, Gonzalez's field goal attempt sailed wide left from 44 years away, but his bad day was far from over.
Gonzalez, a seventh-round pick a year ago, was 17 of 25 on career field goal attempts and 28 of 31 on PATs for the Browns.
The Browns play the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football in week three.
