The 2014 Raiders draft class entered a bad situation determined to make it better.
Nagy was sure to remind Pace that laying back and waiting for the Raiders to call the Bears about Mack may not have been the way to get this thing done. For one, the Minnesota Vikings signed a new quarterback in Kirk Cousins, making them the favorites to win the division. I don't blame Gurley, or any running back, for not wanting to absorb a tackle from the University of Buffalo great. However, the greatest distinction between the Cutler and Mack trades is that the Bears were strong in their belief that Cutler would become one of the top players in the game. Alongside Mack will be former Georgia stars Roquan Smith and Leonard Floyd, also Kentucky Wildcat Danny Trevathan. The Raiders are without Mack, and the All-Pro pass-rusher has his extension.
Carr said Raiders coach Jon Gruden discussed the move with the team. "But it is what it is - it's part of the business", Carr said to ESPN's Paul Gutierrez.
"There's a lot of rumors circulating out there about [Khalil Mack], I'm here to tell you he's not going to be traded", Kennedy said Saturday on Fox Sports Radio. I can't sugarcoat it, but what Mack does to our defense brings a whole new dynamic. The Jets made an offer, but it did not include multiple first-rounders, per SNY's Ralph Vacchiano.
"I felt like, when we showed up here, we wanted to change a culture and I think we did that", Carr said.
"I think, obviously, we had the day off that day and so that made it harder because I'm just sitting there thinking about it all day". That's the only thing left on our list that won't happen.
"We planned the next 10 to 15 years of our life sitting at the same lockers", Carr said Monday. But we do know this: National Football League teams that have paid defensive players "quarterback money" have had a hard time building good defenses around them. What we're hoping with James is that we as coaches can get him to the point where he can just continue to grow each and every day in his technique.
DL Akiem Hicks led the Bears with 8.5 sacks last year, but he won't see as many double-teams this year, playing alongside Mack, who's had 36.5 sacks over the past three seasons.
"It didn't go away, because he's your buddy, but at the same time it went away because we have a game to get ready for".
