Xiaomi Announces Poco F1 With Snapdragon 845 SoC at a Super Aggressive Starting Price of Rs 20,999

From my experience with other Xiaomi phones, they do tend to be put together a bit more sloppily than phones from top brands; we'll see if that's true for Pocophone as well.

The Poco India event will be held in New Delhi, which will be live streamed on their social media channels and YouTube. And for those interested in putting custom ROMs, POCO will also make the kernel source available soon after the first sale on August 29th.

As for the specs, the Xiaomi Poco F1 has a 6.18-inch Full-HD+ display with a resolution of 2246 x 1080 and an aspect ratio of 18.7:9. The camera also come with AI features from Xiaomi. The smartphone is offered in three colours Rosso Red, Steel Blue and Graphite Black. POCO has also gone for a special edition Kevlar Armoured variant with 8GB/256GB for Rs 29,999. The company told Gadgets 360 that this is required as part of the manufacturing process when working with Kevlar. F1 gets a 12-megapixel Sony IMX363 and a 5-megapixel camera located at the back. The fingerprint scanner is below the camera module, where either of your index fingers will rest naturally while holding the phone.

Under-the-hood, it houses Snapdragon 845 octa-core, Qualcomm's most powerful and fastest processor to date and it is backed by the Liquid Cool technology and the newly introduced DSP architecture with AI performance that's three times higher than the previous generation.

Speaking of which, the company already opened the Poco beta testing program and those who purchase the device across the globe have until September 12th to submit their interest in running beta software on the device. The base variant is priced aggressively at Rs 20,999 with 6GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Meanwhile, the 6GB RAM/ 128GB inbuilt storage model has been priced at Rs. 23,999, and the 8GB RAM/ 256GB inbuilt storage model costs Rs. 28,999. Xiaomi has, thankfully, retained the 3.5mm headphone jack in the Poco F1 which was missing in the recently launch Mi A2.

A 4000 mAh battery powers the POCO F1 and it supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology for the fast charging, and a 9V/2A charger in the box package. The device comes with hybrid SIM card slot and supports Dual 4G VoLTE. It also has an FM radio app.

Xiaomi Pocophone F1 boots MIUI 9.6 based on Android Oreo, but it is actually a modified version. The upgrade after MIUI 10 will bring Android Pie. The notch on the Poco F1 is wider than usual. We liked the Poco theme and stuck with it. Rumours also reveal that the smartphone will pack a dual-pixel autofocus lens. We had to go to the security settings to configure face recognition.

The POCO F1 also comes with an infrared illuminator and infrared camera on the front, allowing the AI face unlock feature to securely unlock the device both in pitch-dark conditions as well as in bright daylight as claimed by the company.
