‘Game Of Thrones’ Final Season: HBO Finally Gives An Update On When It Will Air

According to Bloys, it was HBO's intention from the start to brainstorm a bevy of projects and then lock in just one series, allowing creatives and executives to pour their passion into a single project rather than split their energy amongst various productions.

The Prince who was Promised, Jon Snow (Kit Harington) will return for the final season.

The announcement was made by HBO Programming president Casey Bloys at the TCA summer press tour on Wednesday. Only one remains, and production on that is aiming to begin next year as the mothership series comes to an end after eight seasons.

Lately, there's been some confusion circling the seven kingdoms and beyond about the Jane Goldman-scripted GAME OF THRONES prequel, though HBO chief Casey Boys has recently come forward with an update for those looking forward to the mysterious show.

The final three mix original material with material expected in the as-yet-unpublished final novels in the cycle, The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring. Dan Minahan, who directed four episodes of the original series and episodes of Game of Thrones, will helm the film.

Bloys today confirmed that pilot was now locking down a director and casting director.

The last seven seasons of Game of Thrones have been a pretty wild ride, and though the latest run had its detractors, most agreed it upped the ante on the action stakes as well as moving the plot significantly towards its conclusion. "We hope to be shooting sometime in the new year".

Bloys spoke with Entertainment Weekly at an event for the Television Critics Association and revealed his thoughts on the script for the series finale of the popular show.
