Gareth Southgate hopes England can end their World Cup on a high note this weekend

After sitting in the middle of the fans, the former striker upset a number of them with his combative behaviour, at one stage trying to conduct the crowd like a super fan.

The Premier League begins in just four weeks and Gareth Southgate's squad, players who were being hailed as national heroes just a few days ago, will return to the day job and the struggle for starting places at their clubs.

"And the togetherness and flexibility we had tactically shows what we want to be as a footballing nation".

Apparently it's bad luck in Croatia to wear your team shirt before game day so the sea of red wasn't as prominent yesterday as it is today - but there were certainly a lot of flags flying and football merchandise was flying off the shelves.

This is despite the Three Lions defying pre-tournament expectations and reaching the last four of a World Cup for the first time in nearly 30 years.

"If Croatia can win then we will all be able to dream of doing it", Belgium coach Roberto Martinez said on the eve of the game, spelling out that the dominance of the tournament by the larger, established footballing super powers could be at an end.

There's one thing connecting the four teenagers England have high hopes for: they're all attacking in nature. "This is something all of us have in us, and it will be in us to the very last moment".

Gareth Southgate insists he had found a system he wants to stick with for the senior side and a style of play to be mirrored throughout the youth groups.

It was emotionally hard after the semi-finals, but our players are just incredible.

Belgium's players criticised the tactics France used in their 1-0 semi-final win as Deschamps' team sat deep and Samuel Umtiti's headed goal came from a corner, but Griezmann dismissed the criticism.

There will be a bonus for the Croats as they prepare for their nation's first World Cup final: They finally get to wear their unmistakable checkered jerseys again.

But Southgate will now begin preparation for Euro 2020, while also keeping in mind the Qatar World Cup, and some of England's Russian Federation heroes will be culled.

John Senior said: "They've given a great performance and they were such a strong squad, we've got every reason to celebrate reaching the World Cup semi finals".

UPDATE: Both of our pundits grab the 10 points due to Belgium's win in the third-place game over England.

"I think that you only need to take a look at the footage coming from Croatia to see what's been going on over the past month".

"So the defeats have, I think, been hugely important for our development as well".

Moscow's famous Gorky Park's showcase condition for World Cup visitors is to a great extent down to Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich. He also knows that generally speaking we are looking at some other players.

"When the war started we became refugees and it was a really tough time", Modric revealed.

"We can only be happy and proud that despite the crisis, Croatians have put aside the problems and the hardship", said Dalic.
