Luka Modric hails "world class" Christian Eriksen ahead of last-16 tie

Ivan Rakitic of Croatia celebrates scoring his team's fifth penalty in the penalty shoot out during the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Round of 16 match between Croatia and Denmark at Nizhny Novgorod Stadium on July 1, 2018 in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia.

Asked about Eriksen, Modric said: "I don't like to compare players, particularly to compare others with myself".

Six of Croatia's seven goals at this year's World Cup have been scored in the second-half.

The match has been billed as a one-on-one battle between Modric and Eriksen, the star midfielders of their respective sides who have each impressed in Russian Federation. The Tottenham star only scored once in the group stage (Denmark only scored twice, with Eriksen assisting on the other goal), but he is capable of a difference-making moment that requires the opposition to remain on its toes.

The Danes have scored just two goals so far in Russian Federation but Hareide says they will adopt a more attacking approach in Nizhny Novgorod.

The defender added that he is very proud to captain his national team in the World Cup, and hopes Denmark can go as far as possible in the tournament.

"What I can say about Eriksen is he's a fantastic player, a world-class player". As the match wore on, it was the Danes who began to look the more dominant side.

Andrej Kramaric (for Perisic 96) - 6 - Looked lively during his short spell on the pitch, and helped his side win a late penalty, though the subsequent spot-kick was saved.

Expect Croatia to play in their strongest 4-2-3-1 formation with Mario Mandzukic as the lone striker and Luka Modric playing in an advanced role behind him.

"It will bring together the whole country if we move on against Croatia", Eriksen said. They have let up just one goal in three games; goalie Kasper Schmeichel has saved 12 of the 13 shots on target he has faced in the group stages.
