The six men arrested in Paterson Sunday appeared in court Tuesday to face charges for the brutal slaying of a 15-year-old boy in the Bronx in what appears to be a case of mistaken identity.
Further arrests are expected to be made. The teen, known as "Junior", died after getting slashed with knives and a machete.
Lesandro Guzman-Feliz's murder received national attention for the sheer brutality of it, and for what investigators said they believed was a case of mistaken identity, reports the New York Post.
He entered a plea of not guilty.
Prayers for the family of #NYPDExplorer Lesandro Guzman-Feliz, whose dream of joining the NYPD was cut short by a murderous street gang.
It is not clear whether the members of the Trinitarios gang - a Dominican gang based out of New York's Rikers Island prison - are American citizens. They sent a large contingent of cops and found four people tied to the attack of Lesandro "Junior" Guzman-Feliz who were holed up at a house on East 24th Street in Paterson, a source told WPIX. Speaking Tuesday, NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot F. Shea said the gang is "not new to us" and vowed to crack down on gang violence in the Bronx.
That victim survived the incident, but remains in the hospital in critical condition after losing a kidney.
Police said Guzman-Feliz knew the suspects and the stabbing may have been gang-related, though Guzman-Feliz-who had no criminal record-was not a part of a gang.
"No sorry, no apologize is going to bring my son back". A growing memorial of candles, photos, and stuffed animals sits outside the bodega.
On Monday night, hundreds of mourners gathered for a wake at the Ortiz Funeral Home.
A gang leader later told one of Guzman-Feliz's relatives that he was "sorry" about killing the wrong person. Thank you to the gram for connecting me to this family.
