FBI report ammo on both sides

Trump I did a great service by firing Comey

Comey 'broke norms but not biased' - agency watchdog report

But, in texts released Thursday, Page asks Strzok whether Trump might actually win the White House.

The FBI official who texted "we'll stop" Trump's election was dropped from Mueller's team.

The final report, released Thursday, clearly states that "we did not find documentary or testimonial evidence that improper considerations, including political bias, directly affected the specific investigative actions we reviewed".

On Friday, Trump wrote: "FBI Agent Peter Strzok, who headed the Clinton & Russia investigations, texted to his lover Lisa Page, in the IG Report, that "we'll stop" candidate Trump from becoming President".

Trump's allies and former lawyers have warned him against doing an interview, fearing he could put himself in legal jeopardy by making false statements.

He said it's time to "clean up the FBI" and leave Trump alone.

"The damage caused by these employees' actions extends far beyond the scope of the Midyear (Clinton) investigation and goes to the heart of the FBI's reputation for neutral fact finding and political independence", CNN quoted the report.

In the letter, the lawmakers said they have every reason to believe the IG report - which detailed the FBI's handling of the investigation of Hillary Clinton's emails - is "thorough and accurate", but asserted that "the trust of the American people depends on it".

"I was on the way to winning until a combination of Jim Comey's letter, on October 28, and Russian WikiLeaks raised doubts in the mind of people who were inclined to vote for me but got scared off", Clinton said at a 2017 event titled Women for Women International.

Despite his criticism of the inspector general's report, Trump presented the report's findings as vindication of his decision to fire Comey in May past year.

During the investigation, Clinton had maintained her use was appropriate and that other high-ranking USA officials had engaged in similar practices involving personal communication devices. Rudy Giuliani, the president's attorney, has suggested that a presidential interview with Mueller may not happen in the aftermath of the IG report, which he contends shows the investigation has been tainted and biased against the president.

Former FBI Director James Comey speaks about his book "A Higher Loyalty" during a discussion at the Brookings Institution May 11, 2018 in Washington, DC.

The inspector general also faulted the Federal Bureau of Investigation for failing to act with more urgency in reviewing the new emails found on a former congressman's laptop.
