DURANGO, CO -The San Juan National Forest (SJNF) is planning to implement Forest-wide Stage 3 fire closure this week, which will prohibit most entry into the forest.

The 416 Fire began June 1 near Durango, Colorado.

The Buffalo fire is burning in an area of unincorporated Summit County near the Wildernest and Mesa Cortina subdivisions - where residents of about 1,400 units were ordered to flee immediately.

The Bernalillo County closures take effect Friday and will remain in place until the area receives a significant amount of moisture and the danger decreases.

In New Mexico, the Santa Fe National Forest, along with portions of three national park sites, closed June 1 because of the fire danger. The risky fires have prompted some evacuations from southern California to Colorado.
