On Tuesday, San Juan County lifted evacuation orders for 184 homes.
DURANGO, CO -The San Juan National Forest (SJNF) is planning to implement Forest-wide Stage 3 fire closure this week, which will prohibit most entry into the forest.
The team fighting the 416 Fire said isolated showers were several days away, and that hot, dry, windy conditions were ripe for spreading the flames on Monday.
The 416 Fire began June 1 near Durango, Colorado.
The Buffalo fire is burning in an area of unincorporated Summit County near the Wildernest and Mesa Cortina subdivisions - where residents of about 1,400 units were ordered to flee immediately.
Several wildfires in Colorado have prompted thousands of home evacuations and the closing of a national forest, fire officials said.
"There were big black rolling clouds coming off it and it had gotten to the edge of the forest, right next to the neighborhood", he added.
The report said containment was not expected before the end of the month.
"We went into the street & this is what we saw. We're definitely asking the firefighters to keep their eyes open and their heads up and pay attention to any changes in the weather".
The Four Corners region where Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Utah meet is in the middle of a large swath of exceptional drought, the worst category of drought.
Air resources arrived to help the ground-based fire personnel with the Forest Service, Albany County, and Wyoming State Forestry Division.
No homes had burned, but 14 outbuildings have been destroyed. Fire spokesman Brian Eady told the Associated Press that the increase noted over the weekend was the result of both the fire's natural growth and intentional blazes sparked by firefighters in an effort to control its movement.
The Bernalillo County closures take effect Friday and will remain in place until the area receives a significant amount of moisture and the danger decreases.
In New Mexico, the Santa Fe National Forest, along with portions of three national park sites, closed June 1 because of the fire danger. The risky fires have prompted some evacuations from southern California to Colorado.
"You never know with fire behavior how long you are going to be down there".
It's burning near where a wildfire charred more than 25 square miles (65 square kilometers) in April and May. It remained 15 percent contained.
Officials said the blaze was initially emitting embers that were starting spot fires within about 250 feet of homes and structures.
