Kyle Walker had the ideal reaction to Leroy Sane's World Cup omission

Joachim Low explains shock decision to AXE Leroy Sane from Germany World Cup squad

The youngster has not made the final cut for this summer’s tournament in Russia

Manchester City forward Leroy Sane has been excluded from Germany's final 23-man World Cup squad by national team manager Joachim Löw.

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger, City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan and Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil have all been named in the squad.

However, despite his talent, Sane was not included in Low's Germany 23-man squad travelling to Russian Federation this month to compete in the World Cup.

In his place is Bayer Leverkusen's Julian Brandt, a player of the same age (22) who scored one fewer and assisted 12 fewer in the Bundesliga than Sane's 2017/18 Premier League total of 10 goals and 15 assists.

"Leroy is a huge talent".

The Germany head coach explained his decision to leave Sané behind in a press conference: "That was a very close decision between him and Julian Brandt, which was made in favor of Brandt".

Low reportedly said that it was a very close call between Brandt and Sane - with Brandt getting the go ahead to pack his bags - and this is the reason. He had not arrived in worldwide matches yet.

While pundits and fans alike expressed their utter shock at Sane's snub, one player who can relate better than anyone, Landon Donovan, offered Sane an alternative to Russian Federation 2018.

"It's as if you are stood at the check-in desk for your flight to Moscow, but are then prevented from boarding".

Germany are set to open their 2018 campaign against Mexico on June 17, before going on to face Sweden and South Korea in their other Group F fixtures.
