Give DenofGeek.com credit for spotting Cruise's tweet featuring the actor, a jet and the words "Feel the Need" plastered on the pic. Tom Cruise was a young, brash hotshot pilot that needed straightening out through the love of a good woman.
Thirty-two years after he achieved Hollywood superstardom with his lead turn in Tony Scott's Top Gun, Tom Cruise is returning to the cockpit for a long-awaited follow-up dubbed Top Gun: Maverick. Although the title Top Gun: Maverick floated around briefly, the film is now without an official title.
The new movie will see Cruise reprise his role of Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, but of course he won't be joined by on-screen wingman Nick "Goose" Bradshaw following his untimely demise in the original. For a long time, a sequel to Top Gun was right up there with a sequel to Independence Day on my list of much-discussed sequels that will never happen. Back then, they hadn't been in any war for 15 or 20 years at that point.
So far the plot of the sequel's been kept under wraps and, other than Tom, no casting's been announced. On Wednesday (May 30), Cruise took to social media to share the first official picture from the set of Top Gun: Maverick.
