Fresh from attending the Royal wedding, Serena Williams will take aim at the upstarts who have been honeymooning at the majors in her absence when she makes her long-awaited Grand Slam return at Roland Garros.
The WTA has been considering changing the rules to protect players returning from maternity leave, but the earliest any chances could come into effect is next year.
Before then she had even played while pregnant much to the surprise and awe of fans everywhere.
Her longtime coach Patrick Mouratoglou, who oversaw her first training session on Court Philippe Chatrier at Roland Garros on Sunday, has no doubts that Williams's competitive streak has not been blunted by the priorities of motherhood.
"It's not as if she left because of injury and lost her passion for the game", Blake said. So the people will decide what seed she will get. In March she briefly rejoined the tour for two tournaments where she was unseeded in Indian Wells and Miami.
"I would like to see that change", Sharapova said at last week's Italian Open.

She found out on Monday that she will not be seeded, which could make for a hard path through the tournament.
"We haven't had someone really prepared and determined to do something at Roland Garros -- to say it is one thing, to actually do it is another", Leconte told AFP this year.
"One can never count Serena out if she's in a draw", said Courier.
Serena had a tough time giving birth.
A CT scan revealed blood clots in her lungs, and subsequent coughing fits ruptured the stitching from her C-section, causing hemorrhaging that was aggravated by the blood thinners she was taking.
A climb back up the WTA rankings should make for a less trying ordeal, but Williams apparently has quite an ascent to make before she again gets the benefit of a seeding.
Williams commented on the frequency of the tests Monday on Twitter. Nike states that the clean black and white color combination is a nod "to the greatest athlete of all time's quest to continue to rewrite the history books when it comes to defining sport dominance". But I feel like I always had a chance, and they kind of slip away, all the matches somehow, so even if it's a little bit disappointing, I feel like I was there and I had my chances.
