In the letter, Gleason asked Wood for an order to protect any records Cohen might have concerning their discussion of the women - a step he felt was needed after federal agents seized boxes of documents in raids on Cohen's office, apartment and hotel room last month. Cohen, whose residence and office were raided by the FBI on April 9, is under criminal investigation by federal prosecutors in NY.
Mr. Gleason said in an interview that Mr. Cohen had told him that if Mr. Trump were to run for and be elected governor of NY, he would help bring to light the women's accusations about Mr. Schneiderman.
Gleason told the Daily News that he thought it was a great idea for Dunleavy to talk to Trump-a man accused of sexual misconduct by over a dozen women-about highly sensitive material involving sexual abuse because Trump was thinking about running for governor at the time: "Had Trump become governor, there would have been a real ally in Albany for these women", he said.
"The extent of Mr. Cohen memorializing any of our conversations is unknown", it continues.
"Just to be clear: not one source for our story on Schneiderman has any ties to Trump or Michael Cohen", Mayer wrote.
It's unclear when Trump found out about these allegations against Schneiderman, or if it was before or after his September 2013 tweet, but it does seem to have been at some point that year.
Gleason claims that he talked to Stephen Dunleavy, a retired journalist, about the situation, and Dunleavy offered to talk to Trump about it.
Gleason said he was originally contacted by two women, the first in 2012 and the second in 2013, who separately told him that Schneiderman had engaged in sexually inappropriate conduct with them.
Schneiderman and Trump have publicly feuded since the New York Attorney General's Office sued Trump University, claiming Trump defrauded students in a case that was settled in 2016 for $25 million.
Eliot Spitzer resigned as governor of NY in 2008 after his dalliance with a prostitute was revealed. The letter does not explain why Gleason brought the matter to Dunleavy or why it would then be raised with Trump. Wait and see, worse than Spitzer or Weiner, ' wrote Trump.

"It's awesome how Democrats turn out to be perverts", Giuliani said, pointing to disgraced former Rep. Anthony Weiner of NY and "this creep" Schneiderman.
During my communications with Mr. Cohen I shared with him certain details of Scheinderman's vile attacks on these two women.
Instead, he kept the information to himself as Schneiderman investigated Trump University, and as Trump ran for president.
On Tuesday, Avenatti had released a bombshell report about payments made to Cohen by several businesses.
