Messi gives 10-man Barca 2-2 draw with Madrid, Ronaldo hurt

Real Madrid

There were no surprises as Madrid carried out their intention of refusing to honour unbeaten LaLiga champions Barca prior to Sunday's entertaining 2-2 draw at Camp Nou.

Although Bale could not help Real do that, he did earn them a share of the spoils as he curled in a first-time shot from outside the box in the 72nd minute.

The replays suggested that Roberto's hands hit Marcelo on his shoulder and the Brazilian fell down immediately. "I think we are the only unbeaten team in Europe in the big leagues and that is something that pushes us".

And his players have opted against showing Barcelona respect in that way for tomorrow's game.

Barca players crowded around him at the end of the first 45 minutes, and the home fans jeered him and his assistants off the pitch.

With Barcelona having wrapped up the league and Real preparing to play in the Champions League final later in the month, the Clasico lacked some of the hype that normally precedes it, but the match was thrilling encounter across the 90 minutes.

Suarez started and finished off a quick attack when he played Roberto clear down the hole left by Marcelo on the right flank.

The strike from Ronaldo put the Portuguese level with Real legend Alfredo Di Stefano for the second-most Clasico goals of all-time at 18.

Ronaldo appeared to shake off the injury.

Bale was eventually booked as was the usually even-tempered Messi, who made an uncharacteristically aggressive challenge on Sergio Ramos after the Real captain had an ugly confrontation with Suarez which led to both players getting yellow cards.

Ronaldo stayed on the bench and, without its star, Madrid couldn't impose its numerical advantage.

The 33-year-old has won nine La Liga titles during his career-long association with Barca, also claiming six Copa del Rey crowns and four Champions Leagues.

That goal took Messi's clasico record to 26 goals. With most of the players visibly exhausted and struggling to recover on defense, both sides had chances to get the win. It was mainly Madrid until the final whistle, but Barcelona held on with few problems to continue their unbeaten run and cement their domestic dominance.

Atletico Madrid lost 2-0 to Espanyol for its first home defeat of the league season.
